RI Hawks take u14 Chip in Hoopville

Mike McCourt and the Hawks have now won two chips in a row
After winning six straight games last weekend to win the Zero Gravity National Finals, the RI Hawks 8th Graders picked up right where they left off this weekend, emerging from a strong field to capture the 2012 Hoopville Spring Finale Championship this past weekend at Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.

The Hawks began pool play with a 53-30 victory over Prodigy–Boston. Jerome Desrosiers led the way with 13 points, while Corey Romich had 11 (including 3 treys) and Mike McCourt added 10.
They continued with a 71-46 victory over Visionary Basketball Club as 6'5" 7th Grader Tomas Murphy led all scorers with 20 points, while Desrosiers added 16 and Romich chipped in with 10. Saul Phiri led VBC with 14 points.
Next up was Expressions Elite on Sunday morning. Five Hawks scored in double figures, led by Murphy and Romich with 15 points each. Desrosiers had 12 of his 14 points in the 1sthalf as the Hawks jumped out to a 46-33 lead at the break. PG Kyle Henseler added 12, while McCourt dropped 10 for the Hawks, who walked away with a 90-62 victory. Ikenna Ngduba led all scorers with 20 points for Expressions.
The final pitted the R.I. squad against the N.Y. Lightning, who had knocked off the Shooting Stars, Boston Spartans, and Boston Titans to reach the final. The Hawks hit 6 3’s in the 1st half and played stellar defense to jump out to a 36-18 lead at the break. The lead grew as high as 23 points at 51-28 before a late Lightning rally closed the gap to 57-45 near the end of the contest. Romich knocked down 6 treys on his way to 19 points to lead all scorers, while Desrosiers added 16 points, and Mike McCourt chipped in with 9 for the Hawks.
